Tesla is recalling thousands of its Cybertrucks due to a rearview camera delay issue in many of the electric vehicles, which are now experiencing their fifth recall since being released at the end of last year, two years behind the initial release schedule.
The EV company notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the display screens in the trucks may remain blank for up to 8 seconds after a driver shifts to reverse. However, the U.S. requires those screens to activate with a rearview within 2 seconds of shifting into reverse.
Elon Musk’s company distributed the first dozen of its futuristic-looking Cybertruck pickups to consumers in November, about two years after the original scheduled plan to deliver the electric vehicles.
Since that time there have been a series of recalls for the Cybertrucks, requiring many owners to return their pickups. Back in June, there was a recall issued in order to fix problems with trim pieces that can come loose and front windshield wipers that can fail. Two months prior to that recall in April, some of the EVs were recalled because the accelerator pedal was getting stuck.
In response to the most recent recall, Tesla has released a free software upgrade to address the error and owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by Nov. 25.
