Ohio Sen. JD Vance, whom Trump formally chose as his ticket mate for the November election, could be running along with another member of the Trump dynasty in 2028, according to rumors reported by Page Six.
Sources suggest Donald Jr. – the former president’s eldest son – played a significant role in his father’s decision, hinting at his own future political aspirations. “Don Jr. and Vance are besties now,” a source revealed to the New York Post-related outlet, adding that there’s speculation Don Jr. might aim for the VP slot in 2028 if Vance runs for President.
Trump announced his choice on Truth Social on Monday as the Republican National Convention began. Don Jr., 46, praised the decision, calling it “the American dream” and describing Vance as “an incredible pick.”

Buzz about Vance being Trump’s VP choice surfaced on Friday, before an assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Butler, Penn., on Saturday. The New York Times reported in April about Vance and Don Jr.’s close friendship, noting that Vance’s rapid rise in Trump’s circle was due to his bond with the former president’s first-born. Allegedly, the two communicate almost daily and often meet up when in the same city, frequently reposting each other’s social media messages.
Trump, 78, reportedly appreciates that Vance is a millionaire with his own venture capital firm and experience working for tech mogul Peter Thiel. He has also complimented Vance’s appearance, comparing him to a young Abraham Lincoln. In March, Don Jr. told The Post he was advocating for Vance and others, emphasizing his desire for “a fighter.”
Although initially critical of Trump, Vance has recently aligned with MAGA principles. He showed support for Trump in New York City during the Stormy Daniels hush money trial, condemning the prosecution as politically motivated. Don Jr.’s fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle also praised Vance, calling him a “good man,” “great father,” “great husband,” and “intelligent, articulate contemplative” in an interview with NBC News.
