Boxing legend Mike Tyson reportedly fell ill on a plane less than two months ahead of his fight against Jake Paul. Sources claim that he had nausea and dizziness as a result of an ulcer flare-up on a Miami to Los Angeles American Airlines flight.
According to early reports, Tyson’s health crisis caused a delay in the plane’s take off; however, Tyson’s reps refuted such claims. In response to public concerns raised after the incident, his staff released a medical update, reassuring the public that the former heavyweight champion has now healed and is in good condition.
“Thankfully, Mr. Tyson is doing great. He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing. He is appreciative of the medical staff that were there to help him,” said one of his representatives. “However, it’s false reporting that his medical attention caused the flight delay. This two-hour delay was due to an air conditioning issue on the aircraft.”
Tyson, 58, is scheduled to compete in a heavyweight fight on July 20 at AT&T Stadium against social media phenomenon turned boxer Jake Paul, 27. However, a number of brain surgeons and experts expressed reservations about Tyson’s involvement, citing his age and health as major risk factors. Experts have said that Tyson may be particularly susceptible to brain injury during the bout because of his history of drinking alcohol and the cumulative effect of head injuries he suffered during his boxing career.
