“My behavior is inexcusable. I take full responsibility.” Hip-hop producer Sean “Diddy” Combs spoke about a 2016 surveillance video, obtained and published exclusively by CNN, last Friday, where he is seen violently beating his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. He posted a video on Instagram where he commented on the story as “the darkest times of my life.” He is “disgusted” for what he did, but at the same time, he does not mention Ms. Ventura or say sorry directly to her.

Diddy says that he is “committed to be a better man every day” and that he has changed. He is seeking professional help, is in therapy and rehab, and has “asked God for mercy.” This reaction is completely at odds from the first one he had when, last November, Ms. Ventura filed a federal lawsuit accusing him for sexual misconduct. At that time he pleaded not guilty, denying everything, and the case was settled in less than 24 hours.
The footage, dated March 5, 2016, corroborates the allegations made by Cassie Ventura. Compiled from multiple camera angles, the video shows Mr. Combs, clad only in a towel, shouting and running after Ms. Ventura, who was trying to get away from him. He grabbed her by the back of the neck and threw her to the ground. Then he kicked her twice while she lay motionless, after which he he is seen dragging her away.
Authorities have searched Mr. Combs’ homes in California and Florida as part of a federal investigation into human trafficking crimes. He has dismissed these allegations as a “witch hunt,” asserting his innocence and pledging to clear his name.
