State police revisited the home of Rex Heuermann on Monday, the prime suspect in the infamous Gilgo Beach murders. This latest search adds to the scrutiny as Heuermann prepares for his impending trial concerning the deaths of four women found along a remote beach parkway.
“The work of the Gilgo Beach Homicide Task Force is continuing,” said a spokesperson from the Suffolk District Attorney’s office. Specific details regarding the purpose of the search have not been disclosed, fueling further public and media conjecture.
During the search, no family members were present. Heuermann’s estranged wife, Asa Ellerup, and their children are reportedly out of state. “There have been no new arrests made nor are we anticipating any for the family,” stated Robert Macedonio, Ellerup’s lawyer.
This operation marks another significant examination of Heuermann’s residence, following a previous search that unearthed over 200 weapons. Charged with the murders of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello, Heuermann remains at the center of one of Long Island’s most disturbing criminal cases.
