For weeks they tried to reach out to him unsuccessfully. At last, Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, has received the notice of indictment in the Arizona State interference case. Authorities reported they tried to contact him several times over the past months, either by calling him or sending emails via certified mail, to no avail. Mr. Giuliani is expected in court in Phoenix on Tuesday.
It was about 11 p.m., on Friday night. Mr. Giuliani was intercepted leaving a restaurant in Palm Beach County, Florida, where he was celebrating his 80th birthday. “The agents by no means disrupted his event. They waited to serve him outside as he left,” Richie Taylor said, a spokesperson for Arizona’s attorney general Kris Mayes. “He was unfazed and enjoyed an incredible evening with hundreds of people, from all walks of life, who love and respect him for his contributions to society. We look forward to full vindication soon,” Mr. Giuliani’s spokesperson Ted Goodman said, reported by The New York Times.
Many hours before the party began, there was a post on Mr. Giuliani’s X. “If the Arizona authorities can’t find me by tomorrow morning: 1. They must dismiss the indictment; 2. They must concede they can’t count votes.” The post was later deleted.
He is charged with conspiracy, fraud and falsifying documents to subvert the results in Arizona of the 2020 election in favor of Trump, along with 18 other people–of whom he is the latest to be notified. “We would have preferred to serve him three weeks ago when everyone else was served,” Mr. Taylor said. Other defendants include former White House Chief of staff Mark Meadows, on of Mr. Trump’s top legal advisors Boris Epshteyn, and lawyer John Eastman, who was the first to be arraigned in the Arizona case. He pleaded not guilty.
