Eight people died and forty-five more were injured in a multi-vehicle incident in Florida on Tuesday that involved a bus that was reportedly transporting “migrant workers,” according to authorities.
The deadly accident on State Road 40 in Marion County at 6:30 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol, included a school bus carrying 53 passengers.
According to authorities, the bus was transporting migrant laborers who were headed to a watermelon field. Officials from Marion County Public Schools confirmed that no kids were hurt in the collision.
Eight of the injured were described as being in severe condition, while the other 37 had injuries that were not life-threatening, according to WCJB. The injured were taken away on another school bus.
According to authorities, the bus was driven onto the shoulder by the collision, and then crashed into a fence and two trees, overturning the vehicle.
