Texas authorities are investigating the case of a mother who shot and killed and her son, and then herself, while in direct contact with the child’s father during an active custody battle between the parents.
Savannah Kriger, 32, of San Antonio, Texas, and her 3-year-old son, Kaiden, were found dead with gunshot wounds at Tom Slick Park on March 18, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar.
The Sheriff reported that Kriger told Kaiden to tell his father, Brian Kriger, goodbye in a recorded video moments before she shot him.
During a press conference posted to Facebook, Salazar said Kriger left work at 12:49 p.m. on March 18, and went to her ex-husband’s home in Verde Bosque, Texas, which authorities believe she illegally entered and then damaged some personal items while he wasn’t home.
Reportedly, she then went to her home where she laid out her wedding dress on a bed and fired two shots into her wedding portraits which she placed on the bed with the dress.
Kriger then left her home and picked up her son from daycare, according to the sheriff.
She then FaceTimed her husband at around 2:46 p.m., Salazar said, and told her ex-husband, “you don’t have anything to [go] home to now. You really don’t. You don’t have anything at the Dovers Den house either. And you won’t have anything at all at the end of today.”
After a failed FaceTime attempt to call her ex-husband again, Kriger then drove to a park and sent him a text that read “say goodbye to your son.”
The father then began trying to contact the police, Salazar said, as Kriger repeatedly tried to call again.
After trying to reach her ex-husband multiple times, Kriger then made a 21-second video at the drainage ditch where the two bodies were later discovered.
In that video, Kriger told her son to “say bye to daddy,” which the boy did, according to Salazar.
After killing her son, Kriger then shot herself, said Salazar.
Kriger and Kaiden’s bodies were found in the drainage ditch about 19 hours later after the video was made.
Bexar County medical examiner released the cause and manner of death Wednesday. Kaiden’s death was declared as a homicide, and Kriger’s manner of death was recorded as suicide.
