Judge Juan Merchan will allow Donald Trump to attend his son Barron’s high school graduation on May 17 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Trump will be able to take a day off from the trial which is going on at the Manhattan Court. It is still unclear if the trial will continue despite Mr. Trump’s absence.
Several outlets reported that Judge Merchan, who is overseeing the case where Mr. Trump is accused of 34 felony counts, thinks “the May 17 date is not a problem”. Two weeks ago, the 2024 GOP presidential nominee falsely claimed on his social media he was “prohibited” from attending the event and whined about missing Melania’s birthday last Friday, April 26. Hi son Eric defined Mr. Merchan as “truly heartless,” even though the judge had not yet made a decision on Trump’s request.
On Tuesday, April 30, Judge Merchan fined Trump $9,000 for nine violations of the gag order prohibiting him from making public statements about potential witnesses, jurors, attorneys or court staff, since the Former President tends to exaggerate and make inaccurate or inappropriate comments. Prosecutors identified nine critical posts on Truth Social dated from April 10 to 17. Mr. Trump is accused of falsifying business records of hush money payments to former adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.
