In a grim discovery in Colorado, the remains of two children were found, leading to the arrest of two individuals on charges of murder and abuse of a corpse. The Pueblo Police Department reported that the children, last seen in the summer of 2018, were not reported missing until a suspicious activity call led to the investigation on January 20.
The remains of Yesenia Dominguez, believed to be 9, were found encased in concrete in a storage unit, while her brother Jesus, believed to be 10, was found in a suitcase in a vehicle’s trunk at a local scrapyard. Corena Minjarez, 36, and Jesus Dominguez, 35, were arrested following the discovery. Dominguez faces an additional charge of theft of government benefits.
Authorities were tipped off when family members, clearing out the storage unit upon the couple’s eviction, found the metal container. Further investigation revealed Dominguez was receiving government assistance for the children during their disappearance. DNA analysis confirmed the identities of the children on February 15.
Minjarez and Dominguez, identified as the father of the children and Minjarez’s partner, respectively, are each held on a $2 million bond. The Pueblo Police Department is urging the public to provide any information about the arrestees or the children to assist in the ongoing case.
