According to the University of California Berkeley officials, Marco Troper, 19-year-old son of former Youtube CEO Susan Wojcicki, was found dead inside a Clark Kerr campus dorm around 4:23pm on Tuesday, February 13.
All the life-saving measures and attempts disposed of by emergency assistants, who arrived immediately after the 911 call, were unsuccessful. The University of California Police Department intervened as well, but didn’t find any signs of foul play at the scene. According to his grandmother Esther Wojcicki, as reported by Palo Alto Daily Post and SFGate, Troper could have died from a drug overdose. Toxicology results are now awaited, but may take a month’s time.
“Tragedy hit my family”, Wojcicki wrote in a mourning post on Facebook. “Marco’s life was cut too short. And we are all devastated, thinking about all the opportunities and life experiences that he will miss and we will miss together”.
Troper was starting his second semester at the university. He was a math major and member of the fraternity Zeta Psi. According to his grandmother, he was thriving academically and “would tell us endless stories of his life and friends at Berkeley”. His mother Susan Wojcicki stepped down as Youtube CEO last year, after being named one of Time’s 100 most influential people in 2015.
