Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert is facing accusations that she punched her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, in the face on Saturday evening outside of a restaurant in Slit, Colorado.
The police were called out to the confrontation between Lauren and Jayson at the local Miner’s Claim restaurant. Mike Kite, the local police chief, stated that there had not been any immediate arrests despite the reports that Lauren assaulted her ex-husband, but she has become the subject of an active investigation. They are stll looking for any relevant videos of the incident.
This altercation was first reported by The Daily Beast, which claimed that Jayson Boebert called police asserting that he was a “victim of domestic violence.” He also alleged to the Beast that he has witnesses to Boebert’s assault.
However, the congresswoman who has a knack for getting herself into trouble has denied the allegations made against her, asserting, “I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested,” in a statement she made to a reporter of the news station KUSA, Kyle Clark. “I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options,” she added.
Despite the claims Jayson made, he maintains that he does not wish to press charges. “I don’t want nothing to happen,” he said in an interview with the Denver Post, “Her and I were working through a difficult conversation.”
Lauren Boebert filed for divorce in May of 2023 from her husband, with whom she has four sons, stating they had “irreconcilable differences.”
This is hardly the first scandal the right-wing congresswoman has faced recently during her time in office, as this past September she faced backlash when she and her boyfriend were kicked out of a performance of the stage production of Beetlejuice in Denver, accused of vaping and creating a nuisance with inappropriate displays of intimacy and recording/groping one another. She initially denied these accusations, but then later had to backpedal and apologize when the evidence became incontrovertible. In an issued statement, she said, “I simply fell short of my values.”
In a recent statement that Boebert released, she reiterated that the situation between her and her ex-husband was “another reason” for her announcement made on December 27, 2023, in which she stated her intention to relocate from Colorado’s third congressional district to the fourth, and seek a fourth term there instead.
