Former President Donald Trump, facing challenges to his eligibility for the 2024 election, spoke out against the Supreme Court’s upcoming decision. At an Iowa rally, Trump warned of “big trouble” for the country if the Court does not rule in his favor.
“I just hope we get fair treatment,” Trump said on Friday. “Because if we don’t, our country’s in big, big trouble. Does everybody understand what I’m saying?”
Trump’s past use of “dog whistles” to stoke up violence among his MAGA base has been masterful, as we learned during the Capitol riot of Jan 6th, nearly three years ago. The various quasi-militia groups that were in D.C. to march in support of the defeated President were all waiting eagerly for some signal from their leader that would officially call them to act. That is why, despite him saying that he wished them to march on the Capitol peacefully, violence eventually erupted. When it comes to Trump and his most rabid, Q-loving supporters, words matter much less than the emotions that he inflames in them.
During the rally last night, Trump continued with the fictitious narrative that the 2020 election was rigged and stolen; he urged his supporters to go to the polls this time around to make sure the election wouldn’t be rigged. “You should all stay in those voting booths. You should stay there and watch it. If you see bags of crap coming into the voting areas, you’ve got to stop it. You can’t let it happen, because these guys are crooked as hell. They know how to cheat.”
The months following the election of 2020 serve as ample evidence that people can fabricate ballot box hoaxes as easily as a fiction writer does his novels, Of course, as we have seen now for years, it matters little to his supporters that every claim will eventually get thrown out in court, because by then the headline will have already served its purpose in time. It’s becoming increasingly clear that election workers run greater risks than ever, thanks to the words of the former president. However, the upcoming Supreme Court case will determine if the nation will even reach a repeat of the 2020 ballot of Biden-Trump. They’re set to hear oral arguments starting on Feb. 8, with a decision likely to follow in the days after.
Trump’s apocalyptic exhortation to hs fanatical supporters, that “We will fight for America like no one has ever fought before, 2024 is our final battle” is alarming. Does he mean to stoke violence if the decisions don’t go his way?
