Actor Ryan O’Neal, renowned for his iconic roles in the 1970s television series ‘Peyton Place’ and the acclaimed films ‘Love Story,’ ‘What’s Up, Doc?’, ‘Barry Lyndon,’ and ‘Paper Moon,’ has passed away at the age of 82, as confirmed by his son Patrick in a heartfelt Instagram post shared on Friday (December 8).
In a poignant message, Patrick expressed, “This is undoubtedly the most challenging announcement I’ve ever had to make. Today, my dad peacefully left us, surrounded by his dedicated support team who cherished and cared for him, just as he did for us.”
O’Neal earned accolades for his performances, with his role in ‘Love Story’ receiving nominations for Best Actor at the Academy Awards and Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globe Awards. Similarly, his portrayal in ‘Barry Lyndon’ garnered a nomination for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
A prominent heartthrob of the 1970s hailing from Los Angeles, O’Neal was romantically linked with notable personalities such as Bianca Jagger, Jacqueline Bisset, Barbra Streisand, Joan Collins, Diana Ross, and, notably, Farrah Fawcett—the decade’s foremost sex symbol—from 1979 to 1997 and again from 2001 until her passing in 2009.
Reflecting on his father’s modesty, Patrick remarked, “Ryan was never one to boast, but if there’s bragging rights in Heaven, he’s got them, especially when it comes to Farrah. While everyone had the poster, he had the genuine article.” Patrick expressed the anticipation of a joyous reunion between his father and Farrah in heaven, emphasizing their profound connection.
In a tribute, Patrick conveyed his deep affection, saying, “I’ll miss you, Dad. I love you. We love you.”
