Would you fare better than a first grader? Now there’s a way to find out.
A seemingly innocuous question assigned as homework for a six-year-old girl has gone viral on the Web. After being posted on a Facebook group, the question elicited thousands of different responses from more than 4,000 people, each providing their own point of view.
Here it is:
Which word is the odd one out?
Friend
Desk
Egg
Silver
Toothbrush
A number of parents identified “friend” as the exception, pointing out that it is not an object in contrast to the others. Another term that kept coming up was “silver”, as while some said it was an adjective while the others were nouns, others claimed it was both.
The fact that “toothbrush” is the only word without a “e,” a compound term, and the only thing that isn’t usually shared attracted notice as well.
The mother finally communicated the correct answer in a long-awaited update: “The teacher gave the answer silver because the rest are nouns,” the woman disclosed.
