The Los Angeles Mission provides a Thanksgiving dinner to those struggling to make ends meet near LA’s Skid Row homeless district: a tradition for the last ten years.
“We’ve been housing people and getting them off the streets immediately. However, there are 46,000 people on the street so it takes a while but we were able to get 18,000 housed this year. More to come next year”, promised LA Mayor, Karen Boss.
“Thanksgiving usually I spend it by myself but I’m here, there’s good music playing. Everybody’s smiling and enjoying themselves, having a good time,” said Carlos Schmidt who regularly sleeps on the streets nearby.
Founded in 1936 by Reverend I.L. Eldridge, the Los Angeles Mission states on its website that it is “a non-profit, privately supported, Christian-based organization that serves the immediate and long-term needs of homeless and disadvantaged men, women and children”.
