Elon Musk proposes live-streaming potential in-person duel with Mark Zuckerberg on his platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
The two tech magnates playfully agreed to a “cage match” clash in late June. Zuckerberg boasts actual mixed martial arts training and recently mentioned completing his first jiu-jitsu tournament.
In a recent post, Musk declared, “Zuck v Musk fight will be broadcast live on X. All proceeds will benefit veterans’ charities.” Earlier that day, Musk shared his workout routine involving weightlifting: “I bring weights to work due to time constraints.”
The actual showdown in Las Vegas remains uncertain, given Musk’s propensity for impromptu tweets. Still, the amusing exchange has garnered attention. Musk, owner of X, reacted to news about Meta’s Twitter rival Threads with a quip about the world succumbing to Zuckerberg’s dominance, prompting a humorous reference to Zuckerberg’s jiu-jitsu skills.
“I’m game for a cage match if he is lol,” Musk quipped.
Responses from X, Meta, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the potential fight venue owner, are still pending.
Musk’s plan to stream the event on X aligns with his vision of transforming the platform into a “digital town square.” Yet, his much-publicized Twitter Spaces launch event with Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential announcement encountered technical hiccups and a nearly 30-minute delay.
Musk attributed these issues to server strain due to high listener demand. However, the event’s peak listenership reached around 420,000, far from the millions drawn by televised presidential announcements.
