In a rambling, self-aggrandizing post on his platform, Truth Social, Donald Trump ranted on Tuesday that he was notified by special counsel Jack Smith in what is commonly called a “target letter,” received on Sunday night, that he’s a criminal target of the ongoing investigation into his effort to subvert the 2020 election.
Trump called it “horrifying news for our country” and boasted of his poll numbers.
Donald Trump said the letter offered him a chance to speak to the grand jury, which meets at the federal courthouse in Washington D.C., later this week. He was given ” a very short four days” in which to do so.
It’s the clearest sign yet that Smith is close to seeking an indictment for Trump, though the specific crimes he’s considering are not clear.
