Patrons at Versailles, a popular eatery in Miami’s Little Havana, were reportedly left disappointed after a surprise visit from former President Donald Trump. Despite the cheers and excitement when Trump declared “Food for everyone!” twice, a local report suggests that he left without actually purchasing any food for anyone.
Trump, who had recently pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in a Miami federal court, appeared in good spirits as he entered the crowded restaurant on Tuesday. Supporters serenaded him with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” on the eve of his 77th birthday.
Some Trump supporters expressed their belief that he had been treated unfairly during his indictment on numerous counts related to mishandling classified information while serving in the White House. According to Miami’s New Times, citing an unnamed source, Trump’s visit was brief, lasting approximately 10 minutes, which left little time for anything other than handshakes and waving. Both the restaurant and Trump’s campaign have yet to respond to requests for comment.
This incident isn’t the first time Trump has faced accusations of not fulfilling financial obligations. In 2016, USA Today uncovered numerous claims from blue-collar workers and lawyers who alleged that Trump failed to pay them for their services after working for his businesses.
During his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump even took to social media to advise Republican candidate Tim Scott to stiff the contractor of an event after Scott experienced technical difficulties with a broken microphone. Additionally, Trump’s companies have filed for bankruptcy on six separate occasions.
It remains to be seen whether this latest incident will further fuel discussions about Trump’s business practices and financial obligations.
