A video that claims to be of the attac depicts the man being dragged under the water while scared witnesses plead for rescue. The 23-year-old traveler had recently moved to the resort with his father and was identified in Russia by Baza news source as Vladimir Popov.
According to a Facebook post from Egypt’s environment ministry, the man was killed by a tiger shark in close proximity to the Elysees Dream Beach hotel in the well-known Egyptian resort of Hurghada.
The man can be heard shouting “Papa, Papa” in the footage as the predator circles him before attacking, whereas the victim can be seen desperately swimming towards the beach.
The Russian man is not the first person to die at the resort at the hands of a shark. 68-year-old Austrian Elisabeth Sauer was bitten in front of terrified bystanders in July of last year. Just 650 feet from the scene of Sauer’s death, a second lady, a Romanian national in her 40s, was slain in a similar assault the same day.
