For the first time in five years, McDonald’s is introducing a new flavor to its shake menu called the “Grimace Shake”, in honor of one of its most beloved old-school characters’ birthday.
The Grimace Shake will be available starting on June 12 as part of the Grimace’s birthday meal package, which also includes your choice of a 10-piece nugget or Big Mac, a medium French fry, and a medium Grimace shake. The frozen treat, which combines vanilla soft serve and mixed berry tastes, is the first new flavor since the company’s 2017 expansion of its line of Shamrock Shakes.
“Our fans have amazing childhood memories of their birthdays at McDonald’s…and Grimace’s Birthday is all about paying homage to the amazing, fun moments we all share,” said Tariq Hassan, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald’s USA.
At selected restaurants around the country, customers may order the Grimace Birthday Meal and complementary purple shake via the McDonald’s app, drive-thru, delivery, or in-restaurant.
Grimace is a fictional character from the McDonald’s world whose original name was Evil Grimace. When it first appeared in 1971, it unintentionally startled children because of his scaly body and four limbs, which was the reverse of what the McDonald’s marketing team intended. By 1973, however, Ronald McDonald and Grimace had become close friends, and Grimace had been changed into a fuzzy purple blob with two limbs and a fondness of milkshakes.
