Six nursery school children and one adult were injured in a mass stabbing this morning in the French Alps while in a playground.
Local sources state that around 9:45 a.m. in a park next to the lake, a lone man with a knife assaulted a group of young children, most of them were under three years old. According to France Bleu, three of the children are in serious condition.
Security personnel swooped in and detained the unidentified suspect at the spot after the incident was reported to local authorities.
Laurent Wauquiez, the region’s president for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, tweeted: “Horror again. The worst possible attack on children is this one. I extend my full support to the victims and their families. Congratulations to our police officers for the courage they showed in arresting the assailant.”
The stabbing took place in the Pâquier area of Annecy town, a large esplanade that borders Lake Annecy. The National Assembly has held a moment of silence, and French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne is en route to the location.
