A funeral director was accused for a deadly shooting that occured during a service at Washington National Cemetery in Hillcrest Heights, Maryland.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by Prince George’s County Police Department, 48-year-old Wilson Chavis of Hughesville, Maryland, was charged in relation to the shooting that claimed the life of 30-year-old Ronald Steven Banks.
The man was attending a memorial service in honor of 10-year-old gun crime victim Arianna Davis. Police said that one more person suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Chavis “owns the funeral service company that was providing funeral and burial services for a young child who was being buried at the cemetery”, the statement reads. “Several funeral attendees became upset with Chavis and confronted him over his behavior,” according to authorities, which believe that, after the argument, Chavis pulled out a gun, shot two persons, and then fled the area.
The altercation would appear to have been motivated by business reasons. The shooter is now accused with one count of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree murder, attempted first- and second-degree murder and other related offenses.
