According to a statement released by the network, Tucker Carlson, the conservative commentator whose show was frequently ranked as the most-watched cable news program, has been let go by Fox News.
The statement read: “FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have mutually agreed to go their separate ways. We appreciate his contributions to the network as both a host and a contributor, and wish him well in his future endeavors.” The network added that Carlson’s last show aired on the previous Friday.
Carlson’s departure was not explained by the company. Recently, Fox agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million, accusing the network of repeatedly spreading Donald Trump’s unfounded claims about the 2020 election, which defamed the company.
In March, Mediaite reported that Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch were providing Carlson with unwavering support, making him practically immune to criticism within the network. Starting today, Fox News Tonight will broadcast live at 8 PM/ET with a series of rotating FOX News personalities until a permanent host is selected.
Throughout Carlson’s tenure at Fox News, he has been involved in various controversies. Recently, a lawsuit filed by Abby Grossberg, a former booker at the network, alleged that Carlson’s team made anti-Semitic jokes, used the word “cunt” liberally in the office, and displayed casual misogyny.
