Silvio Berlusconi began chemotherapy yesterday to fight a form of leukemia that prompted his admission to the intensive care unit of Milan’s San Raffaele hospital.
Qualified sources claimed that the first treatment was administered yesterday after the Forza Italia party leader’s hospitalization.
The former premier’s condition reportedly remains stable. He was visited at the hospital this morning by his brother Paolo, his youngest son Luigi and eldest daughter Marina – who had already come yesterday, and who did not speak to reporters and TV crews waiting for them outside the Milan hospital.
“Berlusconi telephoned national coordinator Antonio Tajani, spoke with House group leader Paolo Barelli, Senate Vice President Maurizio Gasparri, and heard from other party leaders and top officials. He extended affectionate greetings and recommended maximum commitment in Parliament, in the government and in Forza Italia because ‘the country needs us!’ Everyone assured him that they will not fail to be more attentive, loyal and present in following his directions, waiting for him to recover soon and return to being the fighter he always was,” a Forza Italia statement read.
