Imagine opening your front door and being attacked by an alligator! This is exactly what happened to a man in Daytona Beach.
According to police, officers were called to a home on Champions Drive around 9:42 p.m. Saturday after a resident was bitten by an eight foot gator. The home was located near a golf course.
Police say the resident opened his front door after hearing a noise that he thought was someone looking for his son.
After opening the door, the gator lunged and bit the man’s upper thigh. The man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers located the gator nearby and called an FWC trapper that then euthanized the animal.
This is not the only recent report of an alligator attack in Florida. Just a few weeks ago a woman was killed while walking near a pond when an alligator jumped out of the water to snatch her dog. Trying to protect her dog, she instead became the victim.
Although fortunately not fatal, this attack in Daytona seems to be the most alarming because it happened at the man’s front door. Normally gators do keep more distance from humans.
