Two new earthquakes in southern Turkey, one in the Hatay district of magnitude 6.4 and another of magnitude 5.8 in the Samandag district, both already affected by the disastrous earthquake last Feb. 6.
According to information on the website of the Office of Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD), the 6.4-magnitude earthquake, also felt in neighboring provinces, occurred at a depth of 16.7 kilometers. The second occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers. With collapses and injuries reported, Vice President Fuad Oktay asked citizens in the region “to stay away from damaged buildings and to sensitively follow the warnings of our teams.”
The earthquake was felt throughout Lebanon’s cities, particularly in the capital Beirut, and also in Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Israel and Egypt.
