A 54-year-old man stabbed his wife and their 2-year-old daughter to death before attempting to take his own life with the same kitchen knife in a quiet Ridgewood apartment on Saturday, police and law enforcement sources confirmed.
The violent attack unfolded inside a modest, brick-lined building on Grove Street, in a working-class corner of Queens where neighbors say they never heard so much as a raised voice from the apartment.
According to the NYPD, officers responded to the residence shortly before noon after a 911 call reported a disturbance. Inside, they found the 41-year-old woman and her young daughter with multiple stab wounds to the neck and chest.
Both victims were rushed to area hospitals. The woman was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital. Her daughter, in critical condition, was taken to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries later in the evening.
The suspected attacker, believed to be the woman’s husband and the child’s father, was also found at the scene with a severe stab wound to his own chest. He was transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, authorities said.
A kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims or the suspect. Investigators believe the man attacked his wife and child before turning the weapon on himself in what is being treated as an attempted murder-suicide.
As of Sunday morning, no charges had been filed, and the motive remains under investigation.
