Fourteen new restaurants across New York City were added to the Michelin Guide on Wednesday, and for the first time in years, the majority of them aren’t in Manhattan.
Brooklyn led the latest update with eight newly recognized establishments, edging out Manhattan, which tallied just six.
Among Brooklyn’s standout newcomers: Yemenat, a Middle Eastern restaurant in Bay Ridge; 6 Restaurant, a European concept in Carroll Gardens; Mango Bay, a Caribbean eatery in Fort Greene; and Café Kestrel, a contemporary spot in Red Hook. Also making the cut were Taqueria El Chato in Greenpoint and Enso, a sushi bar in Williamsburg.
Two Thai restaurants rounded out Brooklyn’s list — Glin Thai Bistro in Fort Greene and Hungry Thirsty in Carroll Gardens — further underscoring the borough’s growing appeal for high-quality Asian cuisine.
Manhattan’s six additions include Adda, an Indian restaurant, and Caribbean spot Kabawa, both in the East Village; Joomak, a contemporary venue, and Laliko, which specializes in Central Asian dishes, both located in the West Village. Downtown, French restaurant Maison Passerelle was recognized in the Financial District. The only new Manhattan entry located north of 14th Street was Papa San, a Japanese-Peruvian fusion eatery on West 34th Street.
Despite the shift in this year’s update, Manhattan still dominates the Michelin Guide’s New York listings overall, with 263 entries. Brooklyn follows with 82, trailed by Queens (18), the Bronx (6), and Staten Island (4).
Still, for a borough once seen as the city’s gastronomic periphery, it marks a coming of age.
