A man and a woman were killed early Saturday morning when a car jumped the curb in Manhattan, striking both a cyclist and a pedestrian at the base of the Manhattan Bridge, police said.
The victims, a cyclist in his 30s and a pedestrian in her 60s, were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the NYPD, a Chevrolet Impala was heading westbound on the Manhattan Bridge around 7:30 a.m. when it veered off the roadway and crashed into the victims near the intersection of Canal Street and Bowery in Chinatown.
The impact also damaged a parked NYPD van nearby. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time.
The driver and a passenger, both women in their 20s, were located by officers a block away and taken into custody. Police said neither sustained serious injuries.
As of Saturday evening, no charges had been filed and the investigation remains ongoing.
