Two court officers were slashed Monday morning inside Manhattan Criminal Court, authorities said.
The NYPD said a man entered the lobby of the courthouse at 100 Centre Street around 9:35 a.m. and attacked the officers without warning. One officer was slashed in the face, while the other was slashed in the neck. A third officer was injured as the suspect charged into the main lobby.
The incident took place in an area typically screened for security before the public enters. Police confirmed that all three officers were transported to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
The suspect was taken into custody, but no charges have been filed yet. Police said the man appeared to act without any apparent motive.
Mayor Eric Adams expressed his appreciation for the quick response of law enforcement. “I’m thankful for the swift actions of our officers in making this arrest,” a spokesperson for the mayor said.
