A 32-year-old woman tragically lost her life early Saturday morning after she reportedly jumped from a moving Uber vehicle on the Long Island Expressway in Queens, according to police.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near the Kissena Boulevard exit in Flushing. Authorities said the woman fell from the back seat of a gray Volkswagen Passat before being struck by another vehicle traveling eastbound. The impact of the collision was severe, with the driver’s car hitting her left leg. Despite the paramedics’ efforts, she was declared dead at the scene.
The 44-year-old Uber driver, who remained at the location, was unharmed. Authorities have not revealed his identity.
The eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway were shut down for several hours while NYPD highway patrol officers conducted their investigation into the incident. The exact reasons behind the woman’s sudden leap from the vehicle remain unclear. Police have also stated that the Uber driver did not know the woman had fallen, though they are still searching for the driver of the car that struck her.
Investigations are ongoing.
