In celebration of its 800th anniversary, the University of Napoli Federico II is organizing a two-day event, on October 22-23, 2024, showcasing excellence in research and innovation both for the academic and business Italian American communities at the Data Center of the Cornell Tech Campus, on Roosevelt Island.
“We want to introduce the University to the East coast Italian American community, establishing a strong and structural partnership in this part of the US. We are the third largest university in Italy and the first in terms of departments of excellence, according to the Italian Ministry of Universities,” Professor Giorgio Ventre of Engineering, said presenting the program. “By presenting this initiative, with the benefits and difficulties, we want to gather as many people as possible who would be not only interested in investing capital, but also participating with ideas, innovations, research, opportunities. Italy often proves to be marginal when it comes to attracting newness. We therefore want to bring Naples to New York to facilitate this process.”

The event will receive the moral patronage of the Italian Consulate General in New York and the Italian Cultural Institute on Park Avenue, which appeal to a more academic community, the Italian Trade Agency and the US Chamber of Commerce—for the financial economic audience—and the National Italian American Foundation—for the Italian American community support.
On October 22, the panel will present the university’s postgraduate academic programs as well as the achievements in Life Sciences, Technology and Humanities. “IIC-NY Director Fabio Finotti will give an introduction for the academic community. Then, philosopher and Yale University Professor Luciano Floridi will host a lecture on the history of the Federico II University. Founded in 1224, it is the first State University in the world, by the order by Federico II of Svevia, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, who wanted to create the economic class of the kingdom,” Professor Ventre explained.
On October 23, the focus will be on the university’s technology transfer initiatives, as well as on the collaboration with major US and international enterprises. Lastly, on the institution’s support for startups, current and future. “US Italian Trade Commissioner Erica Di Giovancarlo will introduce the day and Apple’s Vice President Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives Lisa Jackson will attend, together with some other delegates of Microsoft and other major Tech companies, since they have ongoing collaboration with our University,” Professor Ventre ended.
