NYPD officers in Queens are looking for a suspect who apparently attempted to kidnap a child from a daycare center on Monday, according to police.
The unnamed man reportedly entered a Flushing school on Leavitt Street and Carlton Place at around 4:50 p.m. on July 15 and informed the staff that he was coming to pick up a child, according to police sources. Officers claim the suspect gave the name of the three-year-old to the staff members because, he said, the toddler’s father was going to be late by twenty minutes.
According to police sources, school staff found that the man’s name wasn’t on the child’s emergency contact list, and therefore refused to fulfill his request. Authorities stated that after the scheme failed, the would-be kidnapper informed staff he would wait outside the daycare while they organized things, but he later fled from the scene.
The 109th Precinct detectives are looking into the incident and are requesting that anybody with information come forward and contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (888-57-PISTA in Spanish).
