Four New York area hospitals – three of which are in New York City and one on Long Island – were named among the top 20 medical facilities in the country by U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday.
The 2024–2025 list recognized Mount Sinai Hospital, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital–Columbia & Cornell, North Shore University Hospital at Northwell Health in Manhasset, and NYU Langone Hospitals for their nursing care quality and patient survival rates, among other factors.
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center was named the second best cancer hospital in the United States. NYU Langone Hospitals was ranked no. 2 in the US for cardiology, heart, and vascular surgical services, followed by Mount Sinai Hospital at No. 4 and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell at No. 5.
For neurology and neurosurgery, NYU Langone Hospitals was recognized as the best in the country, whereas in the orthopedics field, no. 1 was claimed by the Hospital for Special Surgery on the Upper East Side, with NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell at no. 3 and no. 4 respectively.
North Shore scored a No. 10 in diabetes and endocrinology, No. 11 in lung operations, and No. 12 in cardiology.
The publication evaluates over 5,000 hospitals based on more than 30 medical and surgical treatments for its yearly rankings. California was the only state to defeat New York, with five of its hospitals included on the honor roll.
