In response to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, New York City Mayor Eric Adams ramped up the number of police officers stationed around the city.
“The events that unfolded at today’s rally in Pennsylvania are horrific. No matter our disagreements, we must all agree that violence of any kind is unacceptable. I am praying for the safety of former President Trump and anyone else who may have been injured in the attack in the incident today,” Adams said in a statement.
“We will be surging officers to specific sites across the five boroughs while we continue to gather more information”, the mayor added.
A major part of law enforcement attention may be focused around Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan, the New York residence of the 78-year-old Republican candidate.
The police resource boost, according to Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy, is the result of an “abundance of caution” rather than a specific danger. As of now, there is no known connection between the event that occurred at the Pennsylvania rally and New York City, he said on X.
