A classification update has been released by the FDA about a tomato sauce that was recently recalled in May and June of 2024 across New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
Hudson Harvest Wholesale, a company based in Germantown, New York, voluntarily recalled 243 jars of Tomato Basil Sauce on June 17 due to concerns that they could have been underprocessed.
As of July 11, the product has been categorized as Grade II – defined by the FDA as “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The business stated that “reported swelling, leaking, or bursting jars” – potentially increasing the risk of infections or spoiling organisms – were the reason behind the recall in a notification that was posted on the FDA website.
Even if the food doesn’t seem to have spoilt, consumers are advised to check their pantries and throw away any sauce from the impacted batches right away.
