A Bronx father was fatally stabbed by a road rager who lashed out at innocent onlookers following a fender-bender, according to police and sources.
During the tumultuous melee outside a Morris Heights bodega on Tuesday, Ronald Gomez-Mesa, 29, was defending himself against an unidentified assailant but was fatally stabbed in the chest by the assailant, as seen on footage.
According to law enforcement officials, the events unfolded at 4:30 p.m. after a woman and a man were involved in a minor car collision outside Jason Deli and Grocery on West Tremont Avenue and Phelan Place.
After then, according to the authorities, each driver got out of his car and started arguing with the other. The woman then called a guy, who started arguing with the male driver and onlookers, according to law enforcement officials.
Following a violent altercation, Ronald Gomez-Mesa, 29, of 20 Richman Plaza in the Bronx, was stabbed in the chest even though he was not involved in the initial incident. He was taken by ambulance to St. Barnabas Hospital by emergency personnel, whereupon he was declared dead.
By Thursday morning, the suspect in the fatal knife attack had escaped the scene and was still at large.
