This year’s graduation season will be unlike any other, as a 12-year-old boy who is set to graduate from high school next week will become one of the youngest people to attend New York University this fall.
Suborno Isaac Bari will also make history by being the youngest to graduate in the history of Long Island high schools, in addition to graduating at the top of his class and scoring a 1500 on the SAT.
“Suborno can teach the class, and they are aware of that… He’s truly a prodigy,” Principal Kesha Bascombe of Malverne High School told CBS.
Bari has been lecturing at universities since the age of 7, and began applying to college at the age of 11. He has also published his first book already, called “The Love.”
“When I was 2 or 3, I already had memorized the periodic table,” Suborno said. “I’ve been trying to refine my pedagogy by teaching others overseas.”
At the age of 4, he was praised by former President Obama for his academic accomplishments, and two years later, he received recognition for his “problem-solving” skills from Harvard University.
By the time Suborno was in fourth grade, he was taking high school classes in the morning and elementary school electives/extracurriculars in the afternoon.
“The same way that other kids play video games or bike for fun, I do mathematics for fun to try to hone my understandings for the world,” Suborno said. “My real life goal is just to help others understand math and science, especially physics. Because there are not enough resources.”
Bari has been accepted into New York City’s gifted and talented program to study math and physics, and has also previously taken classes at Stony Brook University.
“It would not have been possible without the hard work of my mom, dad and my brother. For example, my dad worked for me like a cab driver. Everyday he drove me from Malverne High School to Stony Brook University (40 miles) and then from Stony Brook University to NYU and then NYU to home (20 miles),” Bari said in a Facebook post thanking his family. “Even cab drivers don’t drive 120 miles everyday [sic]. Thank you Dad.”
Bari is expected to earn his Bachelor’s degree at the age of 14 and then a Doctorate at the age of 18.
