An elderly pedestrian was beheaded in Brooklyn on Wednesday after being struck by a city Department of Transportation vehicle, according to police sources.
The 86-year-old man was hit by the vehicle at Dahlgren Place in Bay Ridge at around 3:30 p.m., when he was crossing the street, according to the NYPD. According to local witnesses, the victim’s head was severed from his body due to the extreme impact of the crash.
Unsettling images show officers covering the bloody remains with a single sheet while the crane-equipped yellow DOT truck idles in the distance, with the man’s body still on the crosswalk a few feet distant.
Although authorities questioned the 31-year-old truck driver, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
