A man fatally shot his own brother and wounded their mother inside the family’s Queens home Saturday night before killing himself, according to police and sources.
Around 10:30 p.m., Karamjit Multani, 33, broke into his 27-year-old brother Vipanpal Multani’s room and started shooting at him, hitting him in the torso, before he fled the South Richmond Hill house near 95th Street and 11th Avenue, according to the police. Their 52-year-old mother was also wounded in the firefight at the same time, but it does not appear she was a predetermined target.
Karamjit Multani’s body was later discovered a mile away, with a pistol next to his body and a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. The mother was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The brothers’ heartbroken father told CBS News that the murder-suicide happened after a calm evening that included a pizza supper with the family. It is still unknown what motivated Karamjit, a South Asian married father of three young children, to kill his younger brother.
Karamjit’s father claimed that his son was well-off financially and did not act aggressively toward his family, who were unaware that he was armed.
