The homeless man suspected of hitting actor Steve Buscemi in the eye was jailed on $50,000 cash bond after his hearing Saturday, according to court documents.
According to the allegations, at 11:39 a.m. on May 8, Clifton Williams approached Buscemi, 66, on Third Avenue in Kips Bay and gave the actor a random punch before walking away. A criminal complaint against Williams states that Buscemi experienced “bleeding to his eye, swelling, bruising, and substantial pain” when he fell to the ground.
Williams, 50, was charged with felony second-degree assault since Buscemi is over 65. In addition, he faced minor assault charges for allegedly assaulting an Asian man, 22, ten minutes prior to striking the “Boardwal Empire” actor.
During the Manhattan Criminal Court hearing, Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Barry stated that the suspect had a “long history of violent crimes in both Kentucky and Florida, including assaults and other violent crimes.” Wiliams also stated that the suspect “has been in New York for less than a month” and asked for a $100,000 bond.
Judge Marisol Martinez Alonso placed Williams on a $50,000 cash or $150,000 bail and ordered him to Rikers Island jail.
