Actor Steve Buscemi is “okay” after being hit in the face by an unknown assailant on a New York City street, according to his publicist on Sunday.
The random attack reportedly took place in front of 369 Third Avenue on Wednesday at 11:48 a.m. Buscemi, 66, was walking through Kips Bay last week when a thug approached him and hit the “Boardwalk Empire” star in broad daylight. The New-York native star was sent to Bellevue Hospital for treatment after experiencing swelling in his left eye and cheek, according to The New York Post, which first reported the event.
“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” Buscemi’s publicist stated to The Post.
“He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened while also walking the streets of New York.”
A statement about the incident was also released on Wednesday by the New York Police Department without naming anyone. The investigation is ongoing, according to the cops, and no arrests have been made.
The actor, a four-decade veteran of the New York City fire department, has acted in several critically acclaimed films, including “Fargo” and “Reservoir Dogs.”
