The man suspected of using his belt to lasso a woman in the Bronx from behind before pulling her to the ground and brutally raping her in between two cars was arrested by the NYPD on Saturday.
According to police sources, the 39-year-old alleged attacker, Kashaan Parks, was taken into custody in the same borough early on Saturday morning. He has been charged with several offenses, including first-degree rape, assault, strangulation, sex abuse, public lewdness, and harassment.
When he was led by two detectives from the Special Victims’ Division team to a car and driven to Bronx criminal court, he kept his head down and was dressed in a white Tyvek suit. Reporters questioned him about the crime, but he didn’t respond.
The man’s mother told The New York Post that she allegedly spent the entire night persuading her “sicko son” to come clean to the police regarding the horrific incident. “I found out about this yesterday morning at 5:12 am, and I’ve been trying to get my son to do the right thing ever since. And I did,” she said Saturday.
Around three in the morning on May 1, the suspect approached his 45-year-old victim from behind, threw a belt around her neck, and pulled her to the ground, “causing her to lose consciousness,” according to the police.
Criminal records show he was already arrested at least twice in the past. On October 14, 2018, he was charged in the Bronx with third-degree assault and criminal mischief after authorities said he repeatedly struck a 46-year-old woman during an altercation and jumped on top of her. The police claimed he gave her a single blow to the head that left a bump. Additionally, according to the police, he reportedly tossed her phone at a lamp, destroying the light.
He had also been accused of stealing services back in 2013, when he reportedly went into the back of an MTA bus without paying.
