As spring break for New York City public schools approaches, Coney Island’s beachside amusement park, Luna Park, is preparing to be open everyday for the special week off.
The extended hours will start from Friday, April 19, and go until Tuesday, April 30, being open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m, according to park operators.
Currently, the park is only open on weekends, until Memorial Day, when Luna Park will once again be open daily for the Summer season.
College students will also be able to use their IDs and emails to access discount tickets and food during select days throughout the season as part of the park’s “College Days” initiative.
Luna Park will also be welcoming a new rollercoaster: Tony’s Express, in addition to adding electric powered go-karts later this year, upgrading arcades, and adding more stores in the park.
Recently, local elected officials, including Mayor Adams, have hopped on to some of the rides in Luna Park to celebrate the beginning of Summer approaching.
Coney Island has long been a destination Summer spot in the city, but since the pandemic, local officials have been trying to drive profit there after a lull in business due to many places being closed for a while.
The South Brooklyn area houses some of New York’s oldest rides, including the wooden Cyclone rollercoaster and the formidable ferris wheel, The Wonder Wheel, which are also longstanding city landmarks.
