Three individuals, including two teenagers, were killed in two separate shootings in New York City on Sunday night.
A 17-year-old boy was shot and murdered in Brooklyn just 20 minutes after two more victims, including an 18-year-old girl, were fatally injured by gunfire in Harlem, according to authorities.
Around 7:27 p.m., police arrived at the scene of the first incident – close to East 128th Street and Lexington Avenue – and discovered 18-year-old Ashley Ballard had been wounded in the head and back, and 25-year-old Harry Mendoza had been shot in the head.
After being taken to Harlem Hospital, Ballard was declared dead just after 8 p.m. Mendoza passed away from his wounds at approximately 10 p.m., according to police.
Then, at about 7:45 p.m., bullets were fired close to 256 East 37th St. in Brooklyn, striking Bryan Henriquez, 17, in the neck and body, according to the NYPD.
After being transported to Kings County Hospital by EMS, he was declared dead.
Police are investigating whether the two attacks could be related. As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made.
