As an anticipated and rare total solar eclipse approaches, a supermarket chain is carving out time for employees and customers to behold the event.
Wegmans will be temporarily closing its locations that are in the path of totality of the 2024 solar eclipse from 3-3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, allowing workers to step out and witness the occasion.
“The opportunity to experience a total solar eclipse comes once in a lifetime, and we don’t want our employees to miss out,” said Patrick Bourcy, Wegmans regional manager. “We appreciate all that our employees do to help our customers prepare for and enjoy events like this, and in return, we welcome the opportunity to make this a celebratory and memorable occasion for them.”
In total, 48 Wegmans stores across Upstate New York will be closing for 30 minutes. During that time, all services, including pharmacy, grocery, and Meals2Go pickup and delivery will be unavailable.
The list of the 48 stores closing include 46 in New York state and 2 in Pennsylvania:
Other New York locations included are Ithaca, Corning, Elmira, Hornell, Jamestown, and Johnson City. Along with the two Pennsylvania stores that are located in the Erie area.
