An upstate New York woman had written on social media that she was “drunk asf” only hours before her missing newborn girl was discovered dying in a chilly, damp utility tunnel at an energy plant.
The tragic death of 11-month-old Halo Branton, who was found in a utility tunnel at the General Electric facility in Schenectady, has led to the filing of murder charges against 24-year-old mother Persia Nelson.
According to The Times Union, the unsettling scenario unfolded on Saturday night when GE employees reported to authorities that they noticed a woman who claimed to have lost her child and reportedly had no memory of how she got there.
According to reports, the infant was located following a frantic 12-hour multi-agency nocturnal search that involved police dogs and drones. Halo, however, died shortly thereafter due to exposure and hypothermia in a nearby hospital, according to officials.
“I’m drunk asf don’t play with me right now lmfaooo”, the woman had posted on Facebook just hours before the victim was discovered down the 8-foot tunnel, where she was either dropped or buried.
The woman has been charged with murder and manslaughter. She is currently detained on a $500,000 cash bond or a $1 million bond. According to investigators, Halo’s disappearance coincided with a winter storm that ravaged the area and was compounded by Nelson’s alleged “depraved indifference,” which encouraged the murder accusation.
