A New York City firefighters union allegedly disciplined several members after booing and “Trump” shouts broke out at an event starring New York State Attorney General Letitia James, and an inquiry is ongoing to identify individuals who participated.
During a promotion ceremony last week for the New York City Fire Department’s (FDNY) new chaplain, Pamela Holmes, several department members booed and chanted Trump’s name when James, a friend of Holmes’, delivered a speech.
Recently, James and her office took the lead in the investigation into the claims made by Donald Trump and his associates that they had overstated their net worth and the value of some of their assets over time in order to obtain better business loans. Trump was sentenced in February to pay around $355 million in damages (almost $450 million after pre-judgment interest).
The Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA), a significant firefighter union in the city, reportedly reprimanded members for the chanting, which they considered inappropriate in light of the situation, according to documents obtained by the Viral News NYC account on X.
A representative for the FDNY confirmed the investigation’s existence and emphasized that it was a professional, not political, concern in a statement to Newsweek.
“Nobody is hunting anyone down,” the spokesperson said. “We’re looking into those who clearly broke department regulations. It has nothing to do with politics. It’s about professionalism at an official event held in a house of worship.”
