A father of 13 who had become a local hero for saving his family from a fire set by their landlord last September was killed outside a Brooklyn brownstone early Sunday morning in an apparent planned assault, police said.
According to neighbors and authorities, Lavel Fraiser, 40, also known as “Flip,” was ambushed and fatally shot in the torso by a squad of gunmen who were “waiting for him.” Just after one in the morning, authorities say, he was discovered in the rear of a building at 673 Sterling Place.
The victim was pronounced dead minutes later at the hospital. An inquiry is still underway and no one has been arrested as of yet.
Last year, Panama-born Fraiser had miraculously managed to save his family from a massive fire. Their landlord, Rafiqul Islam, was later charged with eight counts of attempted murder for allegedly starting the fire early on September 26 in an inner stairway of the house he owned at 212 Forbell St. in Cypress Hills, according to fire authorities.
